Welcome to Alduin! This guide explains the basics in the order you will need them. If you prefer a step-by-step route, follow Your First 30 Minutes instead.

1. Learn to move and fight

  • Walk with W A S D or the arrow keys (or the joystick on a phone).
  • Attack the monster in front of you with Ctrl or Space (or the big attack button on a phone).
  • Open your bag with E, your character window with C and your spells with P.

All controls are listed in Controls & Interface.

2. Gain your first levels on Beginner Island

New characters start at level 0 in the Starting house. Walk outside into the Beginner Island village and fight the easy monsters around it: Piglets, Goats, Blobs and Snakes. Each kill gives experience; enough experience gives you a level.

Every level gives you 3 stat points and 4 skill points. Spend stat points in the Stats tab of your character window (press C). See Character progression for what each stat does.

3. Do the island quests

Several people on Beginner Island have small jobs for you. They are quick and pay well for a beginner:

Piglet TroubleVillage (the Adventurer)100 experience, 25 gold
Goat BusinessVillage (the Collector)500 experience, 2 small Health Potions
Treasure HuntVillage (Danny)1,200 experience, 5 small Health Potions
Funky HairCyndi's shop800 experience, 100 gold
Slime DefenderWatchtower meadow (the Defender)1,000 experience, 5 small Health Potions
Cave ResearchCliffs (the Cave Researcher)1,400 experience, 100 gold
Lost PiggyEddy's house400 experience, 5 small Health Potions
Finish them before you leave

The island quests are cancelled if you sail to the mainland or walk into Aeven before finishing them. Do them first.

4. Sail to the mainland

When you are at least level 1, walk onto the ship at the Beginner Island harbour (reached through the cliffs). It takes you to the Coast road to Aeven. Follow the road north through the Farmland outside Aeven to reach the town of Aeven.

5. Choose your class in Aeven

You start as a Peasant, which has no combat bonuses. In Aeven, talk to the Wise Man near the middle of town and pick Class menu to become a Priest, Magician, Rogue, Archer or Warrior. You can talk to him again later to change. See Classes.

6. Get better equipment

Aeven has shops for weapons, armour, hats, shoes, potions and more; see the Aeven guide. Many monsters also drop equipment. Every item page on this wiki lists its stats, the level you need and every way to get it.

7. Earn gold

Sell loot to shops, finish quests, fish at the docks or help defeat the Hula Guardian. The How to earn gold guide compares them.

8. Find friends

Talk in local chat, open the Social window to add friends, and team up in a party to share experience. See Friends, chat & messages and Parties.
