Gold buys weapons, armour, potions, bank upgrades, haircuts and more. Here are the reliable ways to earn it, with numbers taken straight from the game.
1. Quests
Many quests pay gold on top of experience. Good early ones:
| Rare Berries | 500 | Bring 20 Rare Berries to Old Farmer Greg outside Aeven |
| Guard Job | 300 | Repeatable: spiders and spider legs, near the stronghold swamp |
| Fox fur | 240 | Daily: 15 Fox Fur for Ash or Boum |
| Claw necklages | 120 | Daily, in Aeven |
| Cave Research | 100 | Beginner Island: 5 Bat Wings |
| Funky Hair | 100 | Beginner Island: 3 Blob Slime |
| Bird Control | 50 | Repeatable: 10 Crows in Aeven |
The full list, with rewards, is on the Quests page.
2. Monster drops
Many monsters drop gold directly. Snakes, for example, drop 1–10 gold about one kill in eight; Goats, Rats and Sheep drop a few gold too. Every monster page has a full drop table with the exact chance per kill, and the Drop finder lets you search every drop in the game.
3. Selling loot
Shops buy many of the items monsters drop. Each item page lists Shops that buy it and the price they pay. Examples:
- Goat Horns sell for 5 gold to Cyndi on Beginner Island (or craft 2 into a Dagger).
- Equipment you have outgrown sells back to the shop that sells it, for a fraction of the price.
Some "junk" items are wanted by quests. The item page shows Needed for when a quest uses it.
4. Fishing
Buy a Fishing Rod (100 gold) from Old Finn at the Aeven Fishing Docks and fish at the bubbling spots. Old Finn buys every fish:
| 40% | 2 gold | |
| 28% | 4 gold | |
| 20% | 6 gold | |
| 10% | 10 gold | |
| 2% | 30 gold |
- Fishing Rod
- 100 gold at Old Finn's Bait & Tackle
- Waiting for a bite
- 8–15 seconds
- Catch chance after a bite
- 85%
- Fishing spots
- 3 of 16 at a time, moving every 3–6 minutes
- Average value per catch
- 4.0 gold per bite
Fishing is relaxed, safe and needs no combat level. See the Fishing Guide.
5. The Hula Guardian
Every so often the Hula Guardian rises at the Fishing Docks. Everyone who does at least 3 % of its damage gets 1,000 gold and 2,000 experience when it is defeated, and has a 10 % chance of the Hula Hula Hat. See the Hula Guardian guide.
Saving your gold
Keep gold you do not need in the bank. Defeated players keep their gold, but a full bag makes you too heavy to fight.
