How to fish at the Aeven Fishing Docks — getting there, buying and equipping a rod, desktop and phone controls, the moving fishing spots, every fish and its price, and the Hula Guardian.

Fishing is a calm way to earn gold at any level. Everything happens at the Aeven Fishing Docks.

Getting there

Leave Aeven by its east side. The path leads straight onto the docks. During Halloween the way is the same from Haunted Aeven.

Your fishing rod

    Buy a rod

    Talk to Old Finn on the docks. His shop, Old Finn's Bait & Tackle, sells the Fishing Rod for 100 gold.

    Equip it

    Open your bag (E) and double-click the rod, or drag it onto the weapon slot of your paperdoll (C). The rod is a weapon, so it replaces the weapon you were holding.

How to fish

  1. Look for the rippling, bubbling water next to the pier. Only a few spots are active at a time.
  2. Stand next to a spot (within 2 tiles). You do not have to face it exactly.
  3. Press Attack once: Ctrl or Space on a keyboard, or the big attack button on a phone or tablet. Your character casts the line.
  4. Wait. After 8 to 15 seconds a fish bites, and you catch it most of the time (85 %). The fish goes straight into your bag, and your character casts again by itself.
  5. To stop, press Attack again or walk away.

Fishing also stops if you are attacked or start a fight, unequip the rod, your bag is full, or the spot moves on.

The spots move

Every 3 to 6 minutes a fishing spot dries up and a new one starts bubbling nearby (“The fish moved on. Look for the new bubbles nearby!”). When your line stops, look around for the next ripples.

The rarest fish, the Golden Carp, is worth fifteen Minnows. The Spells window lists Fishing under Activities and shows how many fish you caught in this session.

The Hula Guardian

Every so often the water churns and the Hula Guardian rises at the docks. It is a community boss: everyone who helps defeat it is rewarded, and one of the rewards is the rare Hula Hula Hat. See the Hula Guardian guide.

Tips

  • Sell your catch to Old Finn before your bag gets full; fishing stops when you cannot carry another fish.
  • Fishing is safe: no monsters live on the docks (except the Hula Guardian when it appears).
  • Every fish (and the rod) weighs 1, so a long session fills your Weight bar too.
