How monster drops work

How Alduin decides what a monster drops — one regular drop per kill, rarest first, extra rolls for pets and seasonal items, loot protection — and how to read the drop tables on this wiki.

Updated 2026-10-25

Every monster page on this wiki has a drop table taken straight from the game, with the exact chance per kill. Here is how the game uses those numbers.

One regular drop per kill

A defeated monster drops at most one regular item. The game checks the monster's possible drops one by one, starting with the rarest; the first one that succeeds is the drop and the rest are skipped.

That is why the chances in the tables are a little lower than the raw rates for common items: they already include the chance that a rarer item dropped first. The note under each table shows the chance that a kill gives no regular drop at all.

Drops every monster can give

Some items can drop from any monster. Alduin Coins are one: every monster has about a 10 % chance to drop one, checked together with its own drops. See Alduin Coins.

Extra rolls: pets and seasonal items

Pet drops (for example a Turtle from Baby Turtles) and seasonal drops (for example Halloween Candy during Halloween) are rolled separately on every kill, on top of the regular drop. They go straight into the bag of the player who made the kill.

Who gets the loot

  • A regular drop appears on the ground where the monster fell. For 30 seconds only the player who made the kill can pick it up; after that anyone can.
  • Pet and seasonal drops go straight into the killer's bag.
  • In a party, the drop belongs to the player who made the kill (experience is shared, loot is not).

Reading the tables

ChanceThe chance that one kill gives this item
RoughlyThe same chance as "about 1 in N kills"
RarityA quick label: Common (25 %+), Uncommon (5 %+), Rare (1 %+), Very rare (0.1 %+), Extremely rare
AmountHow many you get when it drops
NotesEvery monster, seasonal (event only) or pet drops

Click a column title to sort a table, and use the search box on long tables. To find which monsters drop an item, open the item's page, or search all drops at once with the drop finder on the Monsters & Bosses page.

Always up to date

When the game's drop tables change, the wiki's tables update with the next game data import. The numbers are never estimated by hand.
